The needles help to deactivate the trigger points and ‘loosen’ shortened muscles. This treatment likely affects the inflammatory, biomechanical, vascular and neurological systems which are related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle. Dry needling is a mechanical-device assisted manual therapy technique within the scope of physical therapy practice. What can Dry Needling help?Dry needling can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal problems. Muscles are thought to be a primary contributing factor to the symptoms. Conditions which respond to dry needling include, but are not limited to:Headaches, Neck/Back pain Frozen Shoulder, Tennis elbow, Carpal tunnel syndrome, Golfer’s elbow, Buttock pain, Leg pain, Hamstring strains, Shin splints, Muscle Spasms,Fibromyalgia, Sciatic Pain, Hip Pain, Knee Pain, Plantar Fasciitis, and Chronic Sprains and Strains. How does Dry Needling work?By introducing a new stimulus (i.e. the needle), this can impede the reflex arc, quiet SEA (spontaneous electrical activity), produce a local twitch response, provide a localized stretch to the muscle, bring circulation to the area to promote healing, and the have the effect of relaxing the muscle.
