A BRIEF HISTORY ON PILATES
Pilates wasn't born in a fancy gym, but in a surprising place: a World War I internment camp. Joseph Pilates, a German physical trainer, developed the system while detained in England. Drawing on his knowledge of anatomy, yoga, and gymnastics, he created a unique exercise method using springs attached to a hospital bed to help rehabilitate fellow detainees.
After the war, Pilates immigrated to New York City and opened his first studio. He called his method "Contrology," emphasizing the mind-body connection and control over movement. Early adopters included dancers and athletes who appreciated Pilates' focus on core strength, flexibility, and posture.
Pilates gained wider popularity in the late 20th century as people sought low-impact yet effective exercise options. The introduction of specialized equipment like reformers and chairs further expanded its reach. Today, Pilates is practiced worldwide, with variations catering to different fitness levels and goals.

“The team here is superb. Jessica is extremely knowledgeable and understands how to troubleshoot and remedy issues well beyond the obvious. Not a typical physical therapy practice, one on one with a lot of listening.”

“Claire is wonderful! She helped me a lot with my lower back pain. I have also realized that I injured myself at a Pilates studio that does not emphasize classical Pilates. I am going to start doing Pilates at stability again!”
Haley Grove
