Osteoporosis & Pilates

We get this question all the time: If I have osteoporosis, can I still do Pilates? Our answer: Yes!Osteoporosis is a weakening of the structure of the bone, which makes those who have it more susceptible to broken bones and fractures. There are some general movements that should be avoided, and therefore your Pilates session needs to be tailored to those specific needs. Working with a qualified Pilates instructor/Physical Therapist will ensure that the proper modifications are made. Weight-bearing exercises and resistance training, both of which are a part of Pilates, are very important for bone strength, and to help slow the progression of osteoporosis. Pilates is an excellent way to work on strength, flexibility, stabilization, and posture for optimal bone health and overall wellbeing. At Stability, your Pilates program will be designed with osteoporosis precautions always in mind for optimal results via safe and effective exercise.
