The decision to sign up for private one-on-one sessions for Pilates or for one of our group classes, be it mat or reformer, can sometimes be a difficult decision to make. Here are some of the benefits of both to try to make that decision a little easier for you!
The biggest benefit of private sessions is for those that are just starting out with Pilates and want to make sure that their form is right. Starting out with any new exercise program, you are going to have some difficulty adjusting to the movements that are required from your body. In Pilates, having the right form is important so that you can get the most out of your workout, be it by yourself or in a group setting. For this reason, we recommend that those just starting out have at least one private session before jumping into group classes, where the instructor doesn’t have as much time to help you correct your form. The same benefit applies to those that have certain health issues that would need to be addressed or worked around.
Another benefit of having a private session is that it goes at your pace rather than the faster paces that some of the group classes sometimes go at. Our group instructors need to make sure that the group as a whole is getting the workout they were expecting, which sometimes could be too fast or even too slow for some clients. By signing up for a one-on-one session, you can go at the speed you and your instructor both agree on.
For group classes, do you prefer Pilates on the mat or on the reformer? If you do have a preference, you can sign up for classes that are primarily on either one. Also with group classes, you can sign up with your friends, come to class, and then go out to lunch after and make a day of it to catch up.
If you still can’t make a choice, you can always try both and see which fits best for you! Or you can find a friend and sign up for a Duet Session!!
